- In the early 1950s, the founder of Toyota sent his son Eiji Toyoda to the US to

- Toyoda also visited American supermarkets and was impressed with the speed
and accuracy of grocers who restocked their shelves at night so that the
supplies were replenished in time for customers to shop in the day.

observations and insights back to Japan, where they were adopted, adapted,
and even improved upon by Toyota.
